Flights to India

Unfortunately, there are no direct flights to Sweden from India. Someone traveling to Malmo can take the Air India flight to Copenhagen and then a train to the destination. All other flights have at least one stopover before reaching Sweden.

Traveling from/to India: Due to the aftermath of the Covid pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the prices of flight tickets have risen sharply. A return ticket to New Delhi from Stockholm, which was earlier priced at below 7,000 SEK currently retails for over 12,000 SEK. Plan ahead to get the best price.

Middle eastern flights: Emirates and Qatar are the most preferred flights for traveling between India and Sweden. Both airlines are highly rated and travel to several more cities other than New Delhi, Bangalore, and Mumbai, making it easier to travel than on European airlines. One can choose to do a longer layover to enjoy either Dubai (Emirates) or Doha (Qatar) while on their way to Sweden. Your custom checks will happen in Sweden.

European flights: Air France and Lufthansa are usually the ones used by people who want to have stopovers in Europe. Custom checks are done at your first point of entry – either Paris or Frankfurt. The usual stopover is two hours or more – which makes it easier to catch the next plane. Planes are a little older than Middle eastern ones. They fly to New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai.

Other flights: With flight tickets getting costlier, people try various combinations by taking a mix of flights from LOT to BA and Turkish airlines. When things work, they do quite well. But if there is a delay in one flight, there is a cascading effect on others. If you agree to the risks, they can be quite a bargain.
