What to bring to Sweden?

One of the most complex questions is what to take with you when you are relocating to a foreign country. We will divide our answers based in two parts:

Carrying on a plane

Clothes – Carry what you can in your suitcases for your initial months. You can buy everything here but will be more expensive than what you get in India.

Electronics – Laptops, mobile, chargers

Suits – If your job requires you to wear suits, get them tailored in India. Better quality with a significantly lower price.

Winter wear- Get less of these from India. Buy stuff from here which are tailored for the Swedish winter. A couple of warm jackets from Columbia or Decathlon will do you good for the initial days. You can also pick up warm socks, scarves, caps, gloves, and winter boots from Decathlon.

Stationary- Get those pens, pencils, notebooks, and diaries from India.

Cargo shipment

Pressure cooker – hard to get one here. But one with an induction base as most kitchens here has induction stoves.

Carpets – Get those finely woven carpets from India.

Home decor – There is not as much variety as we get there. Pick wall posters and curtains.

Kitchen tools- From cutlery and ceramics to knives and ladles, pack them all.

Wall clocks – There are fewer selections here with inflated costs.

Bags- Laptop bags, Backpacks, trolley bags, purses

Medicines – Get an assortment of medicines for antacids, antibacterials, etc.

What to buy from Sweden?

Winter clothes – Buying clothes from India is cheaper and you do get a lot of options. But what you don’t get is winter wear made with Swedish winter in mind. Get them here. Though expensive, you will need them.

Bulbs, light fixtures – Lighting is something you will have to buy from here. The fixtures can be very costly with some stuff costing over a 1,000 SEK. Also bear in mind, you might need an electrician to fit them properly.

Furniture – Choose from a variety of stores or buy second-hand. Some online stores offer furniture at a big discount but the quality is substandard.

Good cookware – Most places in Sweden uses only induction stoves, so your cookware needs to be induction friendly. You will get very good quality cookware here.
