REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE

Aditya Roy (name changed on request). He is living in Stockholm for the last 4 months. He came from Kolkata, India.

How easy/hard was it for you to get Indian groceries here?
It is not at all difficult to find edible Indian items here in Stockholm. There are quite a few stores/shops here. Also based on a quick Google search should land you with a few that is nearest to you based on your location. I personally have been to the below stores, take a gander at the items they have in stock: NGrossen in Kista, MyWay in Råcksta, Lakshmi Stores, Indian Food Center in Kungsholmsgatan, and Himalaya Livs. Ngrossen is available Online and provides home delivery service as well.

Do you find everything here?
Yes, all the items used in day-to-day Indian households are available. Preference ranges from North Indian to South Indian cuisines.

What do you miss most from India?
I would say the quick accessibility of fast food/quick bite types of Indian food items such as Pani Puri, Chaat, momos, etc. But if I had to be realistic, every land has its own thing to offer, and fixating on something from the past defeats the whole purpose of moving into a new place.

Who told you about the shops?
I was in Stockholm earlier as well hence I was familiar with where to buy Indian food items. So to generalize the answer, I would rely on word of mouth from Indian colleagues at work. Also, become a member of social media forums such as Indians in Sweden.

Any tips for newcomers?
In my opinion, it is necessary to carry a pressure cooker (2-3L induction base), basic spices, tea or coffee packet, etc., to help you sustain for at least a month or two.
